In this episode of In the Kitchen with Matt, I will show you how to eat a Quince. This easy baked quince recipe is a great way to prepare the quince fruit. There are numerous ways that you can eat a Quince. You can boil them, poach them, stew them, bake them, make them into jellies, pudding, put them in pies, etc. The Quince is a fruit that is similar to an apple or pear but it is not an apple or pear. They are native to Western Asia, Turkey, Georgia, but are cultivated worldwide in Temperate and Warm climates. Turkey and China are the top producers of Quince. There are a few cultivars that can be eaten raw like an apple or pear, but most of the time they are too hard, too bitter and astringent, so they need to be prepared in some way. They are a great fruit with lots of health benefits.
Have you had a Quince before? How did you prepare it? Let me know in the comments.
Baked Quince Recipe Ingredients
1 Quince, peeled and cut in half
2 Tbsp. of white sugar (30g)
1/2 tsp. of ground cinnamon (2g)
1 to 2 Tbsp. of butter (15 to 30g)
Place the quince halves in a baking pan like a pie plate, etc. Sprinkle with a cinnamon and sugar mixture. Place some butter in the cavities. Bake in a preheated oven 375 F/190 C for 40 to 50 minutes until soft. After they are done, let them cool and serve them as is or with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream.
