In stormy weather, the crew of the Cyprus must successfully deploy a half-a-million dollar weather buoy over 200 miles off shore from the Gulf of Mexico. This buoy will be essential for collecting live wind and wave data caused by Storm Barry. Episode 4 of Gathering Storm gives us insight into the warm, shallow waters off the Gulf of Mexico, which are a thriving hub of industry and commerce. But they're also rocket fuel for hurricanes. The Gulf Coast has been decimated in the past but every time the marine and coastal economies bounce back. There are more people, more ships, more fishermen and more oil platforms here than ever before.
