The Pentax K system was the result of a failed experiment between Pentax and Zeiss Ikon, but ended up being one of the most successful and universal mounts in the camera world. It's still in use today, with only minor changes since its inception. Because of this, Nikon F and Pentax K stand alone in terms of lens inter-compatibility.
