Having a look at whats growing on the allotment in June 2021. Starting at the top of the plot we have a walk around the vegetable garden starting with the fig and Apricot Tree's then into the fruit cage where the sweetcorn from last week looks less terrible that i had thought it would! The grapes and raspberries and strawberries are all fruiting and looking great. Then down to the raised beds. Firstly the brassica beds where we have the cavolo nero, kohl rabi and spring cabbages growing. A bit of slug damage! Then the field beans (a green manure we are testing as a crop) and the nine star perennial broccoli! All the way down to the asparagus beds where the asparagus beetle is laying its eggs! The greenhouse is in a mess and i have masses of work to do in there to get it ready for the cucumbers, melons and chilli plants. The mulberry tree is covered in fruit as are the apple trees. The second wave of broad beans are just about ready to harvest and the summer beans like French, Borlotti and runners are all starting to take off now and grow up and over the garden arches. Lots of bits and pieces in the other raised beds, the garlic has rust and there are aphids everywhere! But the poppies are looking fantastic and we do have a couple of cherries on the new cherry tree. The wild flower areas are really starting to look fab and they are humming with pollinators. The poly tunnel tomatoes actually have a few tomatoes on them which is very exciting and so soon we should be inundated in them. Can't wait. Anyway, everything is looking very lush and the next week of rain will really push everything forward. Just a note to say thank you so much for all your messages about the Girls, we are still so sad about not having them on the plot with us but we will give them a little bit of a send off in the vlog on Tuesday. Until then, hope the gardening is good!
