In today's video I am going to show you how to store, prepare preserve fresh herbs. 🎬 Timestamps 00:00 Intro 00:07 Storing 01:56 Preparing 03:03 Preserving ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 🍃 Storing 🍃 When you buy fresh herbs from the supermarket, it is important to store them in the right way, so you can extend the shelf life from 4-5 days to potentially two weeks: a) Wash them properly and dry gently on kitchen paper, this can reduce the number of bacteria on the herbs, therefore delaying decay. b) For hard herbs such as rosemary, thyme and sage: wrap herbs with kitchen paper, put them in a zip bag to minimise oxygen contact, and store in fridge. c) For soft herbs such as parsley, coriander, mint, dill and basil: put herbs in a glass with little water, protect the leaves from cold in a up-side down bag, and store in fridge. 🍃 Preparing 🍃 When preparing hard herbs such as rosemary and thyme, hold the top of the herbs with one hand, with another hand, run down the stem with two fingers to separate leaves and stem. Herb stems can be added to pasta water or vegetable stock, or use them as skewers for summer bbq. When preparing soft herbs with large leaves (like basil), stack leaves together, roll up and chop into smaller pieces. 🍃 3. Preserving 🍃 The best way to preserve fresh herbs is actually making dried herbs in a microwave, it is quick and the beautiful green colour can also be preserved: Spread herb leaves on kitchen paper, and cover them with another layer of kitchen paper, dry in microwave for 1-2 mins or until leaves are completely dry. ⚠️ It is important to check herb leaves in 20 secs intervals to make sure the leaves are not burnt , as this may cause fire. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 💚 Want to see more healthy and delicious plant-based recipes ?
