The Ninja 650 was the most affordable ‘big bike’ when it first launched in India. It offered performed that excited without intimidating, and through Kawasaki’s tie up with Bajaj’s Probiking showrooms, the sales and service footprint was the largest for a big bike. Cut to 2017, and the new Ninja 650 made its debut, this time through Kawasaki’s standalone showrooms. Gone are the motorcycles from other brands standing alongside it on the showroom floor, and also gone is the ‘big bike’ feel of the earlier Ninja 650. This new trellis frame has put the Ninja on a diet, and the smaller, lighter Ninja 650 feels more manageable as a result. There still is the naked option in the form of the Z650, but the Ninja 650 is completely deserving of the name if you consider the looks alone. It looks like it belongs next to the ZX-10R. There isn’t much difference in power and torque, but the sportier ergonomics and more compact riding position make you want to ride it harder ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The new CBR650R is powered by the same 648.72cc inline-four that now produces slightly more power and stands at 86bhp at 11,500rpm and 60.1Nm at 8,000rpm. The motor comes mated to a six-speed gearbox that is assisted by a slipper clutch. Feature-wise, the motorcycle comes with dual-channel ABS and also features Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC). For cycle parts, the motorcycle is suspended by Showa inverted forks up front and a Pro-Link type monoshock at the rear. Braking is done by dual discs at the front and a single disc at the rear.
