Having sensed Maul's exploits on Mandalore, Sidious arrives on the planet cement his own position in the Sith ranks to the exclusion of Darth Maul and Savage Opress (voiced by Clancy Brown) who have claimed the title of Sith apart from Sidious authorization, breaking the Sith Rule of Two. You can see the dismay in Mauls eyes, and you feel sorry for him, knowing that Sidious has used him and has come to destroy both him and his brother. Dave Filoni and George Lucas created a brilliant storyline in retuning Maul to the franchise, risky as it was it definitely paid off.
