@deyomash4 years ago Yeah the pulling focus on a steadicam made me buy a gimbal with a built in wireless follow focus.. because you don't wanna be camera operator on a 50/85mm lens at f1.8 trying to keep everything in focus. Thanks for the video:) ... 1

I just shot a short this past weekend, three days and these tips would have made a huge, HUGE difference had we took them in mind.I sent it over to the producer, to keep this in mind for our next shoot! ...

@pwhilby9 years ago Tom I find that an easy way to keep focus on a steady cam is to increase the aperture to the highest.

@iceycat259 years ago Very fascinating. I love that you're really explaining things and showing behind the scenes footage to accompany it. It's almost like a mini deconstruction masterclass or something. Great content Tom!

@pleasantstrummer8 years ago Wow! Hi Tom, just discovered your film above. Many thanks for posting, very much appreciated. Loved the film. I'm pretty much a total newbie to video/film and can only say many thanks for giving us so much useful guidance. Very much looking forward to working through the tutorials on your web-site. My head is still swimming with it all as I feel I'm on a 1:1 learning curve but am excited about producing a music film. Thanks again, Clive ...

@luttekikker8 years ago Amazing tips! Especially the tip to use motion wisely in the final movie. I have a DJI Ronin and often I noticed that the constant stabilized look of the movement gets boring at some point. It's sometimes even more dramatic to run unstabilized behind the subject in order to create some drama. You talked about unsharpness in a shot because you didn't have a focuspuller, but to me it adds something to the shot really. I am thinking about getting a Aputure DEC LensRegain though to be able to focus pull on my ronin myself. ...

  • @
@TheLivingDeadOne9 years ago Wow, You have great actors that know not to look at you and the camera lens. How you handle the sound of your footsteps? Do you ADR and create Foley afterwards?
  • @
@supersteadicam9 years ago Steadicam(steadycam) and electronic stabilizers both use gimbals. One just uses (brushless) motors.
Just worried people will start calling electronic camera stabilizers as 'gimbals' when mechanical steadycams uses gimbal anyway. ...

@Mrcoolagainbuzy9 years ago Awesome tutorial. I myself have a Flycam 3000 MB. Can you please tell me how to stablize it. Everytime I try to do it slowly drifts away even after 2.5 second drop test and pick up from flat surface test. :(
  • @
@vincentoliver7 years ago Tom, just a quick question. when using a Steadicam should we turn OFF the camera's built in stabiliser or keep it ON. I am using a Sony AX53 with steadicam, this has the SONY BOSS stabiliser system (I also use GH4 and Nikon D750) I like the Sony for quick compact shooting. ...
