Acrylic Portrait Painting of Kusumoto Ine 楠本 イネ . Kusumoto Ine was also known as O-Ine & later in life took the name Itoku 伊篤 . She was the first female doctor of western medicine in Japan. Due to the seclusion in Japan at that time her father Philipp Franz von Siebold, a physician, was banished in 1829, but still managed to provide for Ine & her mother. Her specialization in Western medicine which she studied from many Dutch physicians gained her acknowledgement as a doctor. She died on August 27th 1903 from apparent food poisoning.
