And... almost two weeks after my absolute BOP of a shoe-disinfecting video...
I'm coming atcha today with another outdoor bouldering video! Here I talk about some of the differences I've noticed when making the transition from indoor to outdoor bouldering. Let me know if there's anything I've missed! As somewhat of an outdoor bouldering novice, I'm sure there's something else that can be added :-)
Hope you enjoy this video! I don't know why it took so long to produce and edit, but I'm glad to finally send it out into the world. Sometimes it's hard to juggle Youtube and work (I'm literally typing this description while I have an experiment running in the lab) but talking to y'all in the description and hanging out makes it all worth it! Peace :--)

@samdeshlerمنذ 5 سنواتGreat video, Jenn! I hope a lot of new climbers see it! Climbing on real rock is what it's all about. With lots of people getting into the sport and id="hidden1" class="buttons"> venturing outside, its REALLY important that we work together to make sure we maintain access to our beloved boulders. Ways to do this are to always stay on the main trail(s), don't put crash pads on bushes/grass, don't spread your gear over a large area, poo in a legit bathroom (if your in a place without facilities, research how to shit in nature properly beforehand), park your car only where its appropriate, and don't litter (duh). Some other unwritten rules of bouldering outside are always brush off your tick marks before you leave, climb with clean rubber (dirt and grit on your shoes degrades the footholds), don't use brushes with nylon bristles (more degradation), never climb on wet rock, don't blast music, and consider splitting into smaller groups to reduce traffic on popular problems. See ya out there! ....وسعت12

@leonoliumمنذ 5 سنواتJen! I love your videos! It'd be cool if you mentioned another difference between outdoor and indoor: respecting access issues. It id="hidden3" class="buttons"> might not be as strict where you are, but a lot of places close access to certain crags for certain parts of the year. Or that request a courtesy call to the land owners first. And I'd say for the most part it's in a climber's best interest to respect temporary bans (or acess rules like staying on a track). Good relationships with the custodians of the landscapes we enjoy is the only way to keep our sport viable long term. There are often crews you can join to help clean your local park, and represent climber's in a positive light too. Great idea for a rest day! Cheers for the vids! ....وسعت3

@Dogking1013منذ 5 سنواتWent bouldering outside for the first time this weekend! It was so fun, you completely forget about grades and focus on the climbs. I feel like when you're id="hidden6" class="buttons"> at the gym you can kinda get into a bad mentality of chasing grades rather than enjoying the climbs. I tried using mountain project, it's good in retrospect if you sorta have an idea where things are, but I definitely recommend getting a guidebook. Great Video! ....وسعت2

@
@lteregoمنذ 5 سنواتGreat video! I really enjoy your channel. Just some thoughts about the different styles of climbing and implications. There are some types of climbs that id="hidden8" class="buttons"> are more usual outdoors, which gyms do not set so often or at all: - slabs (your toes might hurt more, depending on the shoes) - mantles (train those triceps, or you might end up cramping) - cracks (bring tape and tape up if needed) That being said - this variation in problems is one of the things making bouldering outdoors so much fun. Also jumping on types problems you don't usually climb will develop your skills more. ....وسعت

@kigashouse7176منذ 5 سنواتanother great vid jenn, so much information involved and its great for new climbers like me to understand these things. One question i do have tho is when id="hidden10" class="buttons"> should a beginner climber switch from indoors to trying outdoors? Or does it not matter as long as the conditions are met? ....وسعت

@
@danimaster6647منذ 4 سنواتWith one statement I disagree with: You should only climb with friends outside. The true advantage of bouldering compared to climbing is that you're id="hidden13" class="buttons"> able to do it on your own. Let's be honest and it's just more apealing to climb big walls who are 20 meters high with the possibility to go even higher on multi pitch climbes than to climb 2-3 meter blocks. For that however you need experienced friends who know their equipment. Let's say you have a specific day in mind and you find no one to climb with you. You can still go bouldering and when responsible the danger really isn't that high. ....وسعت1

@lucaskaufman1725منذ 5 سنواتDo not use ibuprofen during climbing sessions, and if you can help it, don't use it at all!
